Veteran Australian actor Judith McGrath, star of Prisoner, A Country Practice and All Saints, has died aged 70.
McGrath is remembered by generations of fans for her roles in some of Australia’s best-known TV dramas during a career that spanned five decades.
Her passing was first reported by TV Tonight late Sunday.
Born in Brisbane, McGrath appeared in a total of 263 episodes of Prisoner at corrections officer Coleen ‘Po Face’ Powell from 1979 and played Bernice Hudson on A Country Practice.
For many it was her longstanding, Logie-nominated run on All Saints that was most memorable.
McGrath played Yvonne ‘Von’ Ryan in the hospital drama, which also featured Georgie Parker, and was the only original cast member to star in all 12 seasons of the show.
Most recently, McGrath appeared as Maria Crawley in Winners & Losers.
The circumstances surrounding her death aren’t yet known and neither the actor’s management or family have commented on the loss or cause of death Sunday.
Sad to hear we have lost Judith McGrath. As Officer Coleen 'Po Face' Powell in Prisoner she was one of the stalwarts of the show. RIP pic.twitter.com/Ux3c90QDIN
