‘More than friends’: The surprising Bachelor couple winning hearts

The greatest love story to come out the fourth season of The Bachelor wasn’t Richie Strahan and winner Alex Nation.

Rather, it was the friendship-turned-love affair between contestants Megan Marx and Tiffany Scanlon that captivated fans after the cameras stopped rolling.

After weeks of speculation, the blonde duo confirmed their relationship to the Daily Mail Onlinerevealing they got together while holidaying in Bali in June.

“While we were in the show, it was just a friendship. It probably wasn’t until we were in Bali together that it was like ‘Oh, this is more’,” Scanlon said.

According to Marx, the feelings were always there but competing for Strahan’s heart consumed most of her attention.

While Scanlon, 30, was booted off in week two, Marx, 27, was a hot favourite to win until she voluntarily walked off the set because she was struggling to develop genuine feelings for Strahan.

“We had very different experiences when we were on the show. Obviously I found Tiffany very attractive but I was there to get to know Richie,” Marx said.

“But instantly we knew there was a very strong connection. I was so excited to meet her in Bali.

“It’s been interesting talking to other girls on the show, because they just knew something was going on.”

Although Scanlon temporarily moved to Marx’s hometown of Geraldton, Western Australia, in the early stages of their relationship, the pair are now forced to ‘do long distance’.

Speaking to The New Daily, Marx said while their social media posts might suggest an idyllic lifestyle – plenty of travel, beach holidays and fancy parties – maintaining a long-distance relationship is a struggle.

“I’m sure social media makes it look easy, but distance is never easy,” Marx said.

“We hate not being in the same place. We do however have a game plan for the future, and that always keeps the brain from freaking out when things get difficult.”

There are also the inevitable trolls, who occasionally litter Marx and Scanlon’s bubbly, affection-filled posts with homophobic comments.

“I decided I don’t like the whole ‘haters gonna hate’ saying,” Scanlon recently posted to Instagram.

“Haters have no right to hate is what I’m going to promote! Thanks to all those who show us love and support and stand up to the trolls for us.”

However, most of the attention Marx and Scanlon have received is positive – including from international media outlets.

American website Mashable deemed their relationship “the greatest love story to ever come out of The Bachelor”, while celebrity magazine Us Weekly called their union the “best twist ever”.
