South Australian retiree Edwin Daly become Channel Nine quiz show Millionaire Hot Seat’s first $1 million winner on Monday and has already promised $100,000 to his church.

The 67-year-old Vietnam veteran easily answered nine multiple choice questions before correctly answering Banjo Paterson’s full name to win the big prize for the first time in the show’s seven-year history.

“When I saw that question come up, I thought ‘no, too simple’,” he said.

Channel Nine said Mr Daly and his wife, Lucy, spent the night the show went to air celebrating alongside family and friends.

“I gave my mind for this country but by the grace of God I’ve got most of it back,” the Mt Barker resident said.
