‘The Less I Know The Better’ by Tame Impala

The artist: Tame Impala are a five-piece psychedelic rock band from Perth, Australia. The Less I Know The Better is from their critically-acclaimed third studio album Currents.

• Song of the week: Damn Baby
• Song of the week: Panama City
• Song of the week: Here
• Song of the week: Dreams
• Song of the week: True Detective‘s surprise hit

The lyrics of the song are some of the most heartbreaking you’re ever likely to hear. But luckily for listeners, Kevin Parker and his band have backed them with an irresistibly danceable mix of rock-funk and disco.

We can’t help but think Parker wrote it while mourning an ex-girlfriend and sitting in an old-fashioned discotheque.

The Guardian gave Currents five stars and The Less I Know The Better is the jewel in that stunning crown.

The vibe: Proper rock-and-roll with a healthy dose of Saturday Night Fever.

Listen to it when: You want help turning your heartbreak frown upside down.

Sounds like: Reflektor-era Arcade Fire, the lovechild of The Bee Gees and Led Zeppelin.
