Princess Beatrice, the King’s niece, has given birth to a baby girl, her second daughter and child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace says.
The baby, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, was born several weeks prematurely at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on January 22.
She weighed 1.95 kilograms.
The newborn’s second name is likely a tribute to Princess Beatrice’s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
“She is tiny and absolutely perfect,” Mapelli Mozzi said in a post on his personal Instagram page on Wednesday (British time).
“We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.”
The princess and her husband released a photograph of their daughter, showing Athena with dark hair, wearing a white long-sleeved garment and wrapped in a pink blanket with her face hidden by her arm.
Beatrice’s mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, posted her own tribute to her new granddaughter on social media.
“She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team,” she wrote.
The new baby is a fourth grandchild for Sarah and her former husband Prince Andrew.
Beatrice, 36, and property developer Mapelli Mozzi, who married in July 2020, already have one daughter, Sienna. She was born in September 2021.

The princess’s younger sister, Eugenie, has two young sons with her husband Jack Brooksbank.
Beatrice is the ninth-in-line to the throne and baby Athena, who will have no royal title, becomes 11th.
Mapelli Mozzi also has a son called Wolfie, eight, from a previous relationship.
“Their majesties the King and Queen and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” the palace statement said.
