The legacy of the late Australian singer Olivia Newton-John will be on full display in Los Angeles and Nashville in coming weeks as hundreds of her possessions are up for sale.
Hosted by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, the collection of 416 personal and movie set costumes from her estate includes one rare, stand-out collector’s item; the black leather jacket she wore in the final scene of the 1978 hit, Grease.
In the movie, Newton-John transformed from pure Sandy Olsson to the greaser girlfriend of John Travolta’s Danny Zuko, and struts across a carnival paddock in tight black pants wearing a black waist-length leather jacket and high heels, while smoking a cigarette. She takes off the jacket and lures Travolta to a ride singing You’re The One That I Want.
Newton-John’s performance earned a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in 1979.
The jacket is expected to fetch between $US80,000 to $US100,000.

Her schoolyard yellow pleated skirt and twinset is an affordable $US600-plus.
In what is the auction house’s final instalment of “A Week of Hollywood Legends” sales, the curated collection from her homes in California, Florida and Melbourne will be on display at the Grand Old Oprey in Nashville, before heading to the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills on December 10.
Julien’s says proceeds will benefit the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund for plant medicine research for cancer, founded by Newton-John and her husband, John Easterling.
“[It is also] celebrating the life and legacy of the beloved actress and singer,” they say.
Quirky items for sale
While it’s all for a good cause, some of the stranger items on the list include her passports, driver’s licences, permanent resident cards, Christmas stockings, decorations, even rosary beads and Bibles.
With starting bids as low as $US25, there’s her intimate cosmetics perfume tray, sandals, bedroom furniture, personal photographs and sketches, dozens of necklaces, earrings and trinket boxes.
Easterling revealed in September he remained involved in the foundation and its research, telling People they were “seeing quite stunning results in the early stages” of their research.
He’s also selling the sprawling Californian ranch they shared, where Newton-John died.

Dedicated to helping others
In August, 2022, Newton-John died aged 73, after suffering from breast cancer for a number of years.
She was first diagnosed in 1992, and underwent a partial mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Cancer returned in 2013, and again in 2018.
Throughout her illness, she dedicated much of her life to helping others who had cancer, and became a prominent campaigner and advocate for women with breast cancer.
Newton-John received a state memorial service in Melbourne on February 26 last year, where she was remembered as a visionary who cared deeply about others and the world around her.
Travolta and Newton-John remained close friends, although he did not attend the memorial service.
Following her death, Travolta shared a touching tribute, in which he said his dear friend had made an “incredible impact”.
“My dearest Olivia, you made all our lives so much better,” Travolta wrote on Instagram.
“I love you so much. See you down the road and we will all be together again,” he said. “Yours from the first moment I saw you.”
Travolta signed his tribute: “Your Danny, your John”.
At last year’s Academy Awards, Travolta broke down in tears while introducing the In Memoriam segment, in which he included a personal farewell to Newton-John.
“They’ve touched our hearts, they made us smile, and became dear friends who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to,” referencing her hit song Hopelessly Devoted To You from Grease.
