Homebuyers looking for the ultimate inner-city pad will think their prayers have been answered when they walk through this former church-turned-apartment-building.
The north-facing ground floor apartment, which occupies part of what was once the Cairns Memorial (Uniting) Church in East Melbourne, is generously sized, offering four bedrooms, three bathrooms, multiple living zones and a wraparound terrace.

Importantly, it also is within walking distance of the city’s shopping and theatre districts as well as the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
“It is such a wonderful building, and they don’t come up very often,” says Kay and Burton sales agent Sarah Case of the building, which originally was built as a church in 1883-84 and converted into apartments in 1995.
“You can’t replicate something like that.”
Ms Case describes the apartment as “lifestyle” accommodation because of its size and location near the beating heart of Melbourne.
“The property, the largest apartment in the building, offers the convenience of city living, and it covers a whole floor at ground level, with no neighbours on that level. And you have the wraparound terrace, which no one else in the building has.”
Other notable features include a contemporary entertainer’s kitchen as well as two generous “master” bedrooms with en suites.
The Kay and Burton agent points out that its size and living space options will suit a family with two older children.
“It is geared to the down-sizers from Canterbury, Kew, Hawthorn, Toorak and South Yarra who want the inner city lifestyle and access to the CBD, MCG, shops, restaurants and theatres,” Ms Case says.
“It will suit somebody coming out of a bigger house, but who is not willing to compromise on the size. It has four bedrooms and three separate living spaces, which I think is very important. They (prospective buyers) may still have one or two children, and having these zones means children can have their own space. The father can watch the footy in one room while the mother can be watching a lifestyle channel in another room.”
Ms Case says the apartment is attracting plenty of interest.
“At the moment, it is more admirers than buyers, but that is always the case with these type of buildings,” she says.
