A popular “corrosive” bathroom cleaning product sold in Bunnings outlets across Australia has been recalled.
Product Safety Australia said there was a potential problem with the caps on the bottles of 1.2-litre bottles of Drano Max Gel bathroom drain cleaner.
“The cap of bottles may not seal the bottle properly, and result in product leakage. Leakage may be found near the cap and on the outside of the bottle,” it said in an official recall notice on Tuesday.
PSA said this meant a risk of irritation to users’ eyes and breathing, as well as severe skin burns if they were exposed to the leaked corrosive product, which is made by SC Johnson & Son.
There are also fears that young children or pets might ingest the contents of the bottle if they have contact with it.
The affected bottles of Drano are sold in an orange bottle. They have a batch code 664154 (located on the bottle neck) and the universal product code of 9300622003658 beneath that.
They have a use-by date of October 2024.
Anyone who has the product at home is urged to stop using it immediately. It should also be kept away from children and pets.
Consumers who have bought the Drano can check if their bottle is affected on this website. The site has instructions for how to safely dispose of the product and to request a full refund.
“Wear gloves while handling an affected product to protect against any leakage,” PSA said.
