While the world salivates over the release of The Force Awakens this week, another iconic science fiction film has quietly released the trailer to its much-anticipated sequel.
Fans of the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day have waited nearly 20 years for the first glimpse of Independence Day: Resurgence, and the first trailer, released on Monday, promises plenty of epic action and ambitious special effects.
While humans have spent the past two decades creating a defence program with the remnants of the last alien invaders, a new invasion threatens to put the world in even more danger.

In the words of Jeff Goldblum: “It’s definitely bigger than the last one.”
Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A Fox are all back for the sequel, but director Roland Emmerich previously told the New York Daily News it was too expensive to ask Will Smith to come back.
The film will instead be led by Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, who will play pilot Jake Morrison.
Independence Day: Resurgence will be released in June 2016.
