Mr Alexander is also the Second Vice-President of the Director’s Guild of America.
It is believed that Mr Alexander, who was taken into custody in New York on Wednesday, was traced by his IP address and caught by investigators sharing the child pornography through torrent sites.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found videos depicting girls believed to be between the ages of 6 to 13 engaged in sex acts.
“A forensic examination of computers and external hard drives removed from the location revealed digital files of children who are less than 16 years of age engaged in child pornography,” the DA’s office announced in a statement.
If convicted, he faces up to seven years in jail.
Mr Alexander has posted bail of $10,000 and is due to appear in court on November 19.
