Kurt Cobain’s daughter has publicly spoken for the first time the death of her famous Nirvana frontman father, telling Rolling Stone he was “just been another guy who abandoned his family”.
Frances Bean Cobain, 22, was only one year old when her father committed suicide, and said people put him on a pedestal, turning him into “St. Kurt” after his death.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Frances said her father could have been “another guy who abandoned his family in the most awful way possible … But he wasn’t”.

“He became even bigger after he died than he was when he was alive. You don’t think it could have gotten any bigger. But it did.”
Cobain widowed rocker Courtney Love, and wrote in his suicide note that both she and his young daughter would be happier without him.
“I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn’t want to be here and everyone would be happier without him,” Frances said.
“In reality, if he had lived, I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience.”
The young artist admitted she didn’t really like her father’s music, but said she cried every time she heard certain songs.
“I don’t really like Nirvana that much,” Frances said.
“I’m more into Mercury Rev, Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre. The grunge scene is not what I’m interested in.”
While Cobain and Nirvana became icons, his daughter insisted Cobain didn’t want so much fame.
“Kurt got to the point where he eventually had to sacrifice every bit of who he was to his art, because the world demanded it of him,” Frances told Rolling Stone.
“My dad was exceptionally ambitious. But he had a lot thrown on him, exceeding his ambition.
“He wanted his band to be successful. But he didn’t want to be the f***ing voice of a generation.”
