The incident occurred on Shenzhen Airlines flight ZH9648 from the eastern city of Taizhou as it was landing in Guangzhou early Sunday, it said.
The alleged offender was restrained and detained by cabin staff and other passengers after he tried to “damage facilities” on the flight, said Xinhua.
However a report from the Civil Aviation Resource Net of China, a civil aviation information service, said the man “attempted arson” on the craft as it descended.
