New York Mag picks Adelaide over Sydney
In its top 10 list, Lonely Planet says the city is “effortlessly chic – and like a perfectly cellared red, it’s ready to be uncorked and sampled”.
Lonely Planet says the nomination was sparked by developments including the revamped Adelaide Oval, which will host Test cricket this summer, as well as its strong food and arts culture.
So while it might still be the butt of east coast jokes, including a few retorts to the ranking, Adelaidians themselves are starting to care less.
Known locally as the 20 minute city for the ease of travel, it’s got beautiful suburban beaches, close proximity to three wine regions and a buzzing local restaurant, bar and café scene.
It’s so good, that the New York Magazine has recommended visiting Adelaide instead of Sydney. “Like its eastern cousin Sydney, Adelaide has eclectic cuisine, idyllic beaches, Shiraz wineries, and kangaroo-spotting galore—but with a fraction of the tourists and for a whole lot cheaper,” says NY Mag.
