The woman at the centre of the Nick Kyrgios sledging affair has spoken for the first time, saying she hopes such a thing never happens again.

The 19-year-old Croatian WTA Tour player, Donna Vekic, was unwittingly catapulted into headlines worldwide last week when Kyrgios made a sexual remark about her in a match against her boyfriend, French Open champion Stan Wawrinka.

“(Fellow Australian player Thannasi) Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate,” said Kyrgios, 20, midway through the second set.

Vekic told Canadian newspaper The Province on Wednesday that the incident dragged the name of tennis through the mud.

“It’s not easy but I’m trying to focus on tennis and my next match,” she said.

“I haven’t spoken to Kyrgios. But it’s a very disappointing thing to be happening in our sport and I hope it wont happen again because it’s not a very good image for our sport.”

Kyrgios’ outburst sparked universal condemnation across the tennis world.

The ATP fined him $US10,000 ($13,560) and Wawrinka and Kokkinakis both expressed their displeasure, as did senior tour players like Roger Federer and world number one Novak Djokovic.

Wawrinka’s coach, former professional Magnus Norman of Sweden, got stuck into Kyrgios on Twitter.

“That was really really low Nick Kyrgios,” he posted.

“Hope for u (sic) that u have people around that will teach u a thing or 2 about life tonight. Very bad.”

Victoria Azarenka, world number 21 on the women’s circuit, also criticised Kyrgios on the social media platform.

All the controversy may be affecting him on court, with the bad boy dumped out of the Cincinnati Masters Tuesday night by Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-1.

The older brother of Nick, Christos, had his ATP accreditation revoked and was forced to buy a ticket for the match.

The ATP told Christos his credentials would be revoked as a result of his comments made about Vekic and Swiss star Wawrinka.
