The Daily Deuce: Day two
Feeling hot, hot, hot
As temperatures soared around the 40s today, fans sought relief from the heat by jumping into fountains and buying up big at the frozen Coke stall. Kia gave away neck coolers and paddle fans, while ANZ gave crowd members battery-operated fans. Against all common sense, Matosevic and Nishikori took their match to a painful five sets. Nishikori came out on top just as an exhausted Matosevic’s serve began to reveal his failing energy levels.
During Milos Raonic’s match against Daniel Gimeno-Traver, the heat became too much to bear for a young ball boy, who became ill early in the second set. Gimeno-Traver stopped playing to assist the young boy and Raonic handed him a player’s towel before the ball kid chose to leave the court.
Grigor Dimitrov, 22nd seed and boyfriend of Maria Sharapova, found a more effective way to cope with the heat, indulging in an ice bath following his win against Bradley Klahn and sharing a shirtless selfie on his Instagram page. We’re guessing most of his female fans will also need an ice bath after seeing the snap.
We can hear you!
During Roger Federer’s match against Australian newcomer James Duckworth, a clever Fed-head shouted “Pluck the duck!” With Li Na and Fernando Verdasco both telling The New Daily that they can, in fact, hear everything the crowd says, we’re hoping Federer picked up on that particular clever quip.
Style stars
Most stylists will tell you to find a look that flatters you and run with it. Roger Federer listened. Each year, he rocks his shorts, polo and headband combination in a variety of chic colours. This year, Federer has selected an all white outfit with accents of Swiss red. So chic.
Lookalikes of the day
Nick Kyrgios and Puck from Glee
Milos Raonic and Charlie Brown
Caroline Wozniacki and wattle
Rhyne Williams and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad
I’m a Red-fool for you
LMFAO DJ Redfoo turned up to support his girlfriend, Victoria Azarenka, in her match against Sweden’s Johanna Larsson. It was sweet of him to turn up in the extreme heat but we’re just not entirely sure about his headgear and how/why he stays relevant.
