Rona double gets the Dogs fans talking

Winger Curtis Rona has scored a double as Canterbury beat Manly 28-16 at Homebush.

The Bulldogs got on the front foot after one minute of play when Rona crossed for his seventh try in seven games in blue and white.

The Sea Eagles quickly found themselves 10-0 down after Trent Hodkinson slotted the conversion from Chase Stanley’s fourth-minute try.

Daly Cherry-Evans seemed untroubled by the speculation about his future when he scored a brilliant solo try in the 26th minute.

And a penalty goal by skipper Jamie Lyon, shifted to five-eighth to cover for the late withdrawal of Kieran Foran, saw the Sea Eagles trailing by just two points at the break.

Manly hit the lead for the first time when Peta Hiku touched down seven minutes after half-time but a pair of four-pointers to Frank Pritchard and Rona put the hosts back in front 20-12.

Moses Mbye scored in the 65th minute, only to see Manly hit back four minutes later through centre Steve Matai.

But Canterbury winger Corey Thompson crossed with three minutes left to cap the victory.

More to come.
