Chambers cleared to prepare for Origin debut
Queensland Police will not continue with inquiries into allegations against Maroons and Melbourne Storm back Will Chambers.
Called into the side to replace injured winger Brent Tate, Chambers’s debut was put under a cloud after he was accused of assault by Brisbane man Tristan Furniss after an altercation outside the Down Under bar early on Tuesday morning.
According to a statement, Queensland Rugby League (QRL) was advised on Friday that police would not be pursuing the accusation against Chambers any further.
Despite the allegations, Maroons veteran Nate Myles said on Thursday the team had not discussed the situation in camp.
“It’s just going to be another test for the man,” Myles said.
“If it wasn’t enough for him getting ready for his first game, now it’s a test of getting ready with another thing out there.
“Will’s a great bloke and his footy’s been doing enough to get him in the side. I know he’s going to be alright. He’s just got to come out here, train hard and play better on the night.”
The statement said the QRL would not make any more comments.
