Injuries mar Roosters big win

Sydney Roosters have surged back to their premiership winning form of 2013 with a comprehensive 34-14 Anzac Day victory over St George Illawarra at Allianz Stadium on Friday.

However the win could come at a cost for the tri-colours with Michael Jennings limping off with an ankle injury in the 73rd minute and James Maloney (shoulder) following him soon after.

The Roosters dominated the early exchanges on the back of a dominant forward effort and a 3-1 penalty count, racing out to a 12-0 lead after 18 minutes.

Aidan Guerra stepped his way over from close range in the 10th minute before Daniel Tupou scored out wide six minutes later after miraculously keeping the ball inside the touchline 50m upfield.

Ben Creagh hit back for the Dragons when he barged over from close range in the 26th minute.

Anthony Minichiello swooped onto a fabulous Maloney pass in the 38th minute, before the Roosters captain air swung at a Gareth Widdop kick and the two sides went to the break at 18-8 in front of 38,784 fans.

Roosters hooker Jake Friend showed great speed to chase down his own grubber to put the Roosters ahead 24-8 shortly after the resumption with Maloney again converting.

The Dragons refused to wilt though and Gerard Beale scored in the 64th minute from a Widdop pass to bring the Roosters lead back to 10 points.

But from there it was all the premiers as Boyd Cordner scored after busting the Dragons defence on the edge from a Maloney pass in the 70th minute. Three minutes later Shaun Kenny-Dowall stepped his way over despite the attention of three Dragons defenders.

Friend was awarded man of the match.
