Jarryd Hayne won’t make the Super Bowl but one Australian will be there with a chance for big screen glory.
Peter Carstairs is a Melbourne director whose 30-second TV advertisement is one of three vying to be shown during one of the most watched sporting events on earth.
His ad shows a pregnant mother whose baby seems keen on the Doritos its dad is holding.

• Balance crowned overall Sydney-Hobart winner
• Russia likely to miss 2016 Rio Olympics
“Doritos have been running this competition for 10 years,” Mr Carstairs told AAP.
“About three years ago they opened it up to non-Americans for the first time.”

Mr Carstairs is one of three finalists who will be flown to San Francisco for the February 7 Super Bowl, where he will discover if he wins when the ad runs live on TV in the corporate box.
“The prizes are insane,” he said.
The winner gets $US1 million ($A1.39 million) and a chance to work at Warner Bros with director Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming blockbuster movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“Those kinds of things are not that accessible to us here in Australia, it feels so out of reach, working with Hollywood,” Mr Carstairs said.
“In Australia it’s not always that easy to just direct full time, you’re often doing other things as well.”
Mr Carstairs said the previous Australian ads had been quite “in-your-face”.
“Our ads can sometimes make you feel a little bit uncomfortable,” he said.
“I think they like that we’re these brash, edgy Australians.”
He knows nothing about American football but Mr Carstairs says he’s thinking about wearing his Hawthorn AFL jumper to the game.
