Scotty’s gold medal the stuff of pipe dreams
Melbourne 20-year-old Scotty James has won the snowboard halfpipe world championship in Austria.
James scored 91.50 points on his first run of the final and could not be matched. His second and final runs was used as a victory lap, including high-fives with fans.
China’s Zhang Yiwei (89.50) picked up a silver medal, while Slovenian Tim-Kevin Ravnjak (89.25) took home bronze.
James has competed in the past two Winter Olympic Games but the victory in Kreischberg marks his first major title.
“It’s an amazing day and I am so stoked to come away with the win,” he said.
Australian champion Torah Bright finished sixth in the women’s final, won by China’s Cai Xuetong.
