Sochi snow-it-all: Day four
Vict-iouri
Switzerland’s Iouri Podladtchikov beat US favourite Shaun White to take home the gold medal in the men’s snowboard halfpipe event on Tuesday. He did not take that honour lightly. After scoring a 94.75, the 25-year-old put on an adorable display of gratitude, beaming as he hugged White and leaping around celebrating. On that performance alone, he deserved to win.
Music makeover
We all love figure skating for the outlandish costumes and crazy routines, but sometimes there’s just one thing missing – appropriate music selection. Some clever YouTubers have remedied the soundtrack problem by editing some famous routines, both old and new, and changing the backing tracks.
US duo Meryl Davis and Charlie White dance to Drunk in Love by Beyonce and Jay-Z:
And Russian star Evgeni Plushenko skates to Pony by Ginuwine:
It’s like the routines were made for those songs.
Weir-k it
Johnny Weir, former Olympic figure skater and Sochi commentator for NBC, has made a splash on the style front, sporting a series of eye-catching outfits for his television duties. The openly gay sportsman clearly isn’t afraid of all things bold and beautiful and says his much Tweeted-about getups are inspired by Caesar Flickerman, Stanley Tucci’s flamboyant character in The Hunger Games films.
