Golden moment? Women’s sevens in Rio final
Australian women's rugby sevens team has a shot at gold.
Australia is on the brink of claiming the first ever Olympic sevens gold medal after a powerful display over Canada in the semi–final.
The team soaked up pressure from a physical Canadian side to win 17–5.
That sets up a gold medal clash where rugby’s oldest rivals will compete for its newest prize, with New Zealand beating Great Britain in the later match. 25–7.

The top-seeded Australians bounced back from a below-par day two to produce a dominant display in the semi-final at Deodoro Stadium which never gave the Canadians a sniff.
Backline linchpin Emilee Cherry scored two tries in the first half, including one after the siren, for the world series champions to take a 12-0 lead at the break.
Chloe Dalton then started and finished a length-of-the-field play midway through the second half to assure a place in the gold final match.
The final is at 8am [AEST].
