Matthew Dellavedova was the talk of the basketball world after Australia’s statement of intent at the Olympic Games on Tuesday morning (AEST).
The Boomers swept past Serbia 95-80 to make it two wins from two in their Rio campaign.
Dellavedova starred for Australia, scoring 23 points and adding 13 assists as they moved to the top of their pool.
Patty Mills added 26 points in an upset win for the Boomers against the sixth-ranked Serbia.
Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis sang the praises of Dellavedova after Australia’s win.
“His dedication to his art is sensational,” he said.
“Just the amount of work he puts in everyday, you see him getting better. When he’s around good people and players, he absorbs that knowledge and learns.
“When you see good things happen to someone like ‘Delly’, you know something is right in the world. It’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze echoed Lemanis’ sentiments.
“We saw one of the all time great performances in the Australian uniform today by Matthew Dellavedova,” Gaze told Fox Sports.
“The way in which he controlled the game – he found Patty Mills when he needed to, found the big fellas, whenever the game got tight he was able to score himself.
“His recent contract for Milwaukee was for $39 million over four years – based on what we saw today he’s underpaid.”
Gaze added that Dellavedova was set to become a bonafide Australian sporting legend.
“He’s stereotypical of what we love to see in Australia,” he said.
“A great player, with a great attitude and skill, playing at the highest level – but most importantly, extremely humble.
“Humble in his respect for his teammates, for his opponents and doesn’t take anything for granted.
“He’s got an unbelievable basketball IQ and dogged determination on the defensive end.”

Australia are now gearing up for a huge clash against world No.1 United States on Thursday morning (8am AEST).
They then take on China and Venezuela, and Joe Ingles said his side will stick to their attacking instincts against the Dream Team.
“We’ll treat it like any other other game, and I think that’s again where this group is at mentally,” he said.
“We’re going out there to win the game. I think we’ve got a team that is focused on that and we believe we can do some special things in this tournament.”
