Roger Federer has announced he won’t be representing Switzerland at the Rio Olympics and is also out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The all–time grand slam leader made the announcement on his Facebook page.
He says he needs more extensive rehabilitation following knee surgery earlier this year, so has made the difficult decision to call an end to his 2016 season.
Federer says he intends to play on the ATP World Tour for another few years, and needs to give his body time to recover.
The 34 year old has played sparingly this season thanks to a string of injuries.
He’s thanked fans for their support.
