The NRL is investigating an allegation that Warriors assistant coach Richard Agar grabbed a British journalist by the throat during a confrontation in Las Vegas.

The incident is alleged to have happened behind the scenes at Allegiant Stadium, where four rugby league games were played on Sunday (AEDT) as part of the NRL’s annual foray into the American market.

Englishman Agar had been in Vegas for the Warriors’ clash against Canberra, which dominated the Auckland side for a big 30-8 win.

The journalist was on site to cover matches between Super League sides Wigan and Warrington, and the English women’s team and Australia.

Warriors chief executive Cameron George did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The NRL has confirmed it is looking into the allegation.

Agar previously worked with Andrew Webster on Samoa’s coaching staff, and joined the NRL club for the Warriors head coach’s first season at the helm in 2023.

Before that he coached more than 200 Super League games across stints at Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and Leeds Rhinos.
