Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods split up
Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods have decided to call time on their three-year relationship, blaming the pressure of their busy schedules.
The Olympic ski champion announced the split on her Facebook page on Sunday, writing that she and the 14-time major golf winner lead “incredibly hectic” lives that forced them to spend most of their time apart.
“After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have mutually decided to end our relationship,” Vonn said.
“I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together.
“Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger.”
Vonn said Woods and “his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart”.
The sports stars first publicly announced they were an item on social media in March 2013, following weeks of speculation.
They met at a charity event in 2012 and “immediately clicked”, Vonn later told Vogue.
The couple were last seen together in public at last month’s Masters golf tournament, where Vonn walked Augusta with Woods’ seven-year-old daughter Sam and six-year-old son Charlie.
Woods also went to Italy in January to watch Vonn break the World Cup record.
“Lindsey and I have mutually decided to stop dating,” the golfer confirmed in a statement on his website.
“I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together. She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family.
“Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It’s difficult to spend time together.”
Woods was previously married to Swedish model Elin Nordegren, but they divorced in 2010 after it was revealed he’d engaged in a number of extramarital affairs.
Vonn divorced her ex-husband, skier Thomas Vonn, in 2012.
