Real Madrid overcame its recent patchy form to post a 2-0 win over Schalke 04 in Germany in their Champions League round of 16 first leg clash.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended his mini goal drought by opening the scoring in the first half before he set up Marcelo for Madrid’s second.

In Switzerland, Basel and FC Porto drew 1-1.

Derlis Gonzalez hit the opener for the hosts in the 11th minute only for Danilo to equalise for Porto via the penalty spot in the 79th minute.

The second leg of both matches will be played on March 11.
