Belgium boots US out of World Cup

Belgium has emerged victorious in a thrilling round of 16 clash against the USA in Salvador, winning 2-1 after extra-time.

A scoreless 90 minutes was preserved only by the outstanding goalkeeping of USA’s Tim Howard, who kept his side in the match on countless occasions.

The deadlock was broken shortly into extra-time though, as Kevin De Bruyne latched onto substitute Romelu Lukaku’s pass to finally give Belgium the lead.

Belgium’s lead was doubled through a powerful Lukaku finish soon after, but American Julian Green swept home a brilliant volley to give the USA a chance.

The Americans attacked until the end of extra-time, but were unable to find a dramatic equaliser.

Belgium will now play Argentina in the quarter-finals.
