Rodriguez double sends Colombia through to quarters
A James Rodriguez double – featuring one of the best goals scored at this year’s World Cup – helped Colombia to the quarter-finals in a 2-0 win over Uruguay at the Maracana on Sunday morning.
Taking the ball down on his chest, James Rodriguez spun and thumped a searing volley towards goal and watched on as it cannoned in off the crossbar to give Colombia a first-half lead.
In addition to his goal of the tournament contender, Rodriguez was then on hand to turn in Colombia’s second from close range after Cuadrado nodded back an Armero cross.
Colombia will meet Brazil in the quarter-finals after the hosts beat Chile on penalties in the earlier round of 16 game.
