Mixed innings for David Warner and Steve Smith in Sydney grade cricket
David Warner failed with the bat but struck with the ball as Australian cricket’s former leaders had a less productive second outing in Sydney grade cricket on Saturday.
Both former captain Steve Smith and vice-captain Warner were coming off big scores in the opening round last week, as they log up playing time while serving out their 12-month bans from interstate and international cricket for their involvements in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa back in March.
Each spent most of Saturday in the field.
Warner, who scored an unbeaten 155 last week, took 1-8 off two overs and two catches, but made just two off seven balls after opening Randwick-Petersham’s innings against University of NSW in a two-day game.
Smith, who was coming off a knock of 85 last week, claimed three catches and went 0-12 off three overs for Sutherland against Manly-Warringah and should bat next week, when his side will chase 349.
