South Africa has clinched a series win, blasting Australia out before lunch on day four of the second Test in Hobart for a victory by an innings and 80 runs.

The loss, Australia’s fifth on the trot in Tests, came in a rush in the morning session as the team’s batting had no answer to South Africa’s determined play.

The hosts began the day at 2-121, before losing 8-40 as the South African paceman ripped through the Australian batting order.

Usman Khawaja had a string of plays and misses before finally nicking a ball from Kyle Abbott to keeper Quinton de Kock to depart for 64, with the score 3-129.

Adam Voges was out trying to avoid playing a shot, as his bat found the edge and the ball looped to JP Duminy in the gully.

Debutant Callum Ferguson lasted just 11 balls before a ball from Kagiso Rabada found his gloves and had him caught by Dean Elgar for 1.

Peter Nevill was another to find the edge, dismissed by Rabada for 6, and the other debutant Joe Mennie was out plumb LBW, also to Rabada for a duck.

Skipper Steve Smith held out for more than an hour, but he was caught behind off Rabada for 31.

Abbott took 6-77 including the final wicket of Nathan Lyon, while Rabada grabbed 4-34.

Australia lost the first Test at the WACA by 177 runs.

The third Test in Adelaide, which now looms as a dead rubber, begins on November 24.
