Marcus North’s brother killed in accident

Former Test batsman Marcus North has been granted leave by Western Australia from the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland after his brother was killed in an accident on Friday.

The 34-year-old North found out about the death his older brother Lucas shortly after being dismissed during WA’s first innings on day one at the WACA Ground.

Lucas North, 40, was killed when attempting to pour petrol into his broken down car on Perth’s Mitchell Freeway when he was struck by a truck.

Queensland have agreed to allow WA to replace North for the final three days of the clash at the WACA, and Luke Towers will take his place in the side.

Players will wear black armbands and the flags on top of the scoreboard will be lowered as a mark of respect to the North family.
