AFL star Tom Lynch keen on Richmond move
Former Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch has officially told the Suns he wants to join Richmond as a restricted free agent this AFL off-season.
The wantaway star will confirm Richmond as his destination of choice when the Tigers lodge his proposed contract after AFL free agency kicks off on Friday.
The Suns then have three days to match the terms of the deal and force a trade, but it is tipped they will let the 25-year-old forward walk for a compensation pick expected at No.3.
But Gold Coast will first cast an eye over Richmond’s offer before reaching a decision.
“Should the club choose to match Richmond’s offer, Lynch has the option to either fulfil the contract with the Suns, or alternatively enter the draft,” Gold Coast said in a statement.
The spearhead managed just 10 games this season after undergoing season-ending knee surgery in July.
He was stripped of his leadership status after meeting with Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley and returning to the Gold Coast to confirm his intentions to leave.
Lynch is due to speak at a Melbourne spring racing carnival event on Tuesday.
