Bulldogs ruckman Jordan Roughead has been cleared to play in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, after taking a Sherrin to the eye in last week’s preliminary final win over Greater Western Sydney.
Roughead was in doubt for the Doggies’ first grand final berth since 1961 after he was sidelined with a bleeding eye in the second quarter of last Saturday’s blockbuster.
But following a strong performance at the Bulldogs’ final training session on Thursday evening, Roughead was cleared by a doctor on Friday.
“It’s all been signed off, he’s right to play,” Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge told media before the grand final parade on Friday morning.
The 25-year-old is a cousin of Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead, who is currently battling cancer.
Roughead’s clearance means fellow Bulldog Tom Campbell will likely watch from the stands on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are aiming to win their first premiership since 1954 – the longest current drought in the AFL.
