The oft-maligned Jack Watts equalled his career high with four goals as Melbourne extended Collingwood’s poor start to the AFL season with a 35-point victory at the MCG.

With Jack Viney and skipper Nathan Jones dominant in the midfield and Watts the most effective forward on the ground, the improving Demons led all day and won 16.6 (102) to 9.13 (67).

Ever since being selected at No.1 ahead of Nic Naitanui in the 2008 national draft, Watts has been as heavily scrutinised as any player in the competition.

But he extended a fine start to the 2016 campaign with 17 possessions, eight marks and four goals in his 119th senior game.

Viney – the son of former Melbourne skipper Todd Viney – Jones, Dom Tyson and towering ruckman Max Gawn were among the Demons’ best.

Magpies ruckman Brodie Grundy gifted a major to Melbourne’s Sam Frost with an ill-advised handball in the first quarter and Tom Langdon made an even worse error in the third term when his shoddy kick across goal was easily picked off by Dean Kent.

Collingwood lost Ben Sinclair to concussion shortly before halftime, while key forward Travis Cloke suffered an arm injury in the final quarter.

Collingwood slipped to a 1-3 win-loss record, with their only victory of the year being a one-point escape against fellow battlers Richmond in round two.

Dating back to the mid-point of the 2015 season, the Magpies have now lost 12 of their past 15 games.

GWS smash poor Port in record win

Greater Western Sydney proved they’re no longer boys in a men’s game with a record 86-point win over a poor Port Adelaide in Canberra on Sunday.

The 22.19 (151) to 9.11 (65) flogging at Manuka Oval was the expansion club’s biggest-ever winning margin and highest score since joining the competition in 2012.

It eclipsed last year’s 81-point victory over Carlton in round 22, and the 135 points they posted to beat the Blues earlier in 2015.

The Giants remain undefeated in the nation’s capital this season, having beaten Geelong in round two.

GWS had 14 individual goalscorers – youngster Rory Lobb stepped up with four goals, while Callan Ward, Steve Johnson, Ryan Griffen and Rhys Palmer each booted two.

Dylan Shiel was once again hugely influential, as was Shane Mumford who dominated the ruck against opposite Matthew Lobbe.

The record win came on the back of record opening terms – posting their highest-scoring first quarter (42) and half (94) ever.

They had 34 more inside 50s and 15 more contested possessions.

Roos improve to 4-0 in AFL, Dockers 0-4

North Melbourne have overwhelmed Fremantle in the last quarter for an outstanding 31-point win at Etihad Stadium.

The 20.12 (132) to 14.17 (101) win leaves the Kangaroos as the only unbeaten team after four rounds.

Fremantle were much-improved on Sunday, but they join Carlton as the only teams without a win.

No AFL side has made the finals from a 0-4 start.

After looking in trouble at times through the middle of the match, the Kangaroos put Fremantle to the sword with six goals to two in the last quarter.

Roos midfielder Jack Ziebell was best afield with 26 disposals, eight clearances and three goals.

Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe was not far behind Ziebell with 27 disposals, seven clearances and four goals.

Fyfe and captain Matthew Pavlich led the the Dockers brilliantly, but ultimately skill errors cruelled their chances of a badly-needed win.
