Camporeale appointed interim Crows coach

Adelaide have announced that assistant coach Scott Camporeale will be promoted to the top job on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The Crows have also appointed a coaching director, former West Coast boss John Worsfold, to support Camporeale and the playing group.

The news comes in the wake of Phil Walsh’s shock death on Friday. The ex-Crows coach was stabbed to death in his Somerton Park home and his 26-year-old son, Cy, has been charged with murder.

Adelaide chief executive Andrew Fagan said Camporeale – a member of the club’s coaching staff since 2011 – is highly respected.

“Nine months ago, we set out on a journey with Phil Walsh at the helm,” Fagan said.

“We are all determined to continue pushing down that path, guided by his values of elite standards, hard work, attention to detail and a team-first attitude.

“Scott is well supported by David Teague, Darren Milburn and Matthew Clarke, and now John Worsfold adds further experience and insight.”

With Camporeale moving from his role as midfield coach to senior duties, a new member of staff was required.

And Worsfold – who led the Eagles to a premiership in 2006 – was happy to help the Crows after being approached on Sunday.

“John is a premiership coach who already has an understanding of our football program given he was briefly here on Walshy’s invitation earlier this year,” Fagan said.

“We are thrilled that he has agreed to join our club for the remainder of this season.”

Adelaide, who had their match against Geelong on Sunday cancelled, will resume football duties this Saturday.

The Crows play West Coast at Domain Stadium in what is expected to be an emotional occasion.
