Young pups fire in Dogs win, Kangaroos cruise
Young Western Bulldogs forwards Jake Stringer and Tom Boyd enjoyed a night to remember on Saturday, combining for nine goals as they thrashed the Brisbane Lions 22.14 (146) to 11.8 (74).
Brisbane competed in the first half and reduced the margin to nine points early in the third quarter.
But the Bulldogs, led by the forward pair, finished full of running to produce a thumping 72-point victory at Etihad Stadium.

Stringer kicked five goals while Boyd – who booted four – also added a game-high four contested marks.
Jack Macrae had 35 disposals for the Bulldogs, while Robert Murphy (24 disposals) also sparkled across the half-back line.
Dayne Beams (28 disposals) tried hard for Brisbane and Daniel McStay kicked three goals but Justin Leppitsch’s side were simply blown away in the second half.
The Bulldogs held a 21-point lead at half-time, but no one in the 21,129-strong crowd was comfortable, given the 55-point lead they gave up last month against St Kilda.
Goals to Rohan Bewick and McStay reduced the Lions’ deficit to within two goals but any Bulldog nerves were eased with a four-goal burst in 10 minutes.
Wallis’ fine run down of Jack Redden and conversion arrested their slide, before a trio of Bulldog forwards carved open the match.
Stringer’s fine bouncing snap, Boyd’s goal-line mark and Dahlhaus’ roving effort all resulted in goals to decide the contest.
The fourth quarter was party time for the Bulldogs, allowing Stringer to fill his bag and Marcus Bontempelli to mark his return to fitness with a goal.

The nine-goal-to-three romp allowed the Bulldogs to post their biggest score in four seasons and push their percentage into positive territory.
Elsewhere, North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein produced record numbers as the Kangaroos cruised to an 18.9 (117) to 8.13 (61) success against Greater Western Sydney.
The Giants reduced a 40-point second-quarter deficit to 23 by the final change, but five unanswered goals in the last term saw North Melbourne finish strongly.
Goldstein racked up 80 hitouts, 10 more than the record – set by Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands against Gold Coast last week – in a dominant performance against third-choice GWS ruckman Rory Lobb.
As a result of Goldstein’s brilliance, the Kangaroos won the centre clearances 20-4.
Robin Nahas kicked four goals and Jarrad Waite and Jamie Macmillan each booted three for the Kangaroos, while Nick Dal Santo tallied a game-high 34 touches in his first game back from a hamstring injury.
GWS small forward Rhys Palmer kicked three majors for the Giants.
