North Melbourne recruit Jarrad Waite was reported for striking in his side’s come-from-behind NAB Challenge win against Hawthorn while in Adelaide, West Coast’s Sharrod Wellingham and Xavier Ellis were injured in a win over Port Adelaide a week after the Eagles lost 2014 best and fairest winner Eric Mackenzie to an ACL injury.
Port Adelaide’s Hamish Hartlett was also injured in the Power’s 1.11.14 (89) to 0.7.7 (49) win before 9212 spectators at Norwood Oval in Adelaide.
Wellingham, who endured a tough debut season with the Eagles last year due to poor form and injury, appeared to injure a calf and was an early substitution.

And Ellis grabbed at his left hamstring in the second quarter before limping off, also to be substituted.
Port’s Hartlett hobbled off with a groin injury in the second term.
The injuries came as West Coast were overpowered by Port, who were propelled by best-afield Robbie Gray (28 disposals, three goals), captain Travis Boak (22 possessions), Ollie Wines (18 touches) and Brad Ebert (24 disposals).
West Coast’s Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis was a standout, collecting 26 disposals including seven inside 50s, while Andrew Gaff (22 possessions), Matt Rosa (17 disposals) and Brad Shepherd were prominent.

But the Eagles found the going tough against a Port side whose class was evident early: they booted four goals inside 13 minutes of the game.
The Port blitz was orchestrated by All-Australian Gray, who had 10 disposals in the first quarter.
West Coast didn’t score a goal until the 17th minute but their breakthrough started a flow of four unanswered goals and the Eagles drew level midway through the second stanza.
Port responded to sneak out to a 14-point buffer at halftime and then kicked five goals, including a super-goal to Andrew Moore, to West Coast’s three majors in a decisive last half.
In Shepparton, the Kangaroos trailed by 24 points at quarter-time, but rallied to the 2.9.13 (85) to 1.9.9 (72) win in front of 7591 fans at Deakin Reserve.
Jordan Lewis gave away a clumsy 50m penalty with under three minutes remaining that allowed Lindsay Thomas to kick a super goal that put his side back in front at the end of a see-sawing encounter.
Sam Wright, Ben Cunnington and Andrew Swallow were all busy on the ball with Thomas their most dangerous forward with three goals including a nine-pointer.
Hawthorn’s line-up was loaded with premiership stars, but stand-in coach Cameron Bruce wasn’t afraid to experiment with youngsters Jonathan O’Rourke, Jed Anderson and Jonathon Ceglar often starting in the middle at the bounce.
It was the old hands who impressed most, however, with Lewis, Sam Mitchell and Josh Gibson among their best.

Isaac Smith is an injury concern for Hawthorn after being subbed out with a leg issue.
After a less-than-ideal start to his career in brown and gold, James Frawley put in a better performance matched up against Waite for most of the day.
Jack Gunston kicked the opening goal after a strong run out of defence by Frawley and, with the Roos guilty of turning the ball over on occasion, Hawthorn added another three goals to hold a handy 24-point lead at the first break.
Swallow, Wright and Brent Harvey were all prominent as the Kangaroos chipped away at Hawthorn’s lead with a Harvey super goal on the stroke of halftime bringing the deficit back to just five points.
Thomas put his side in front for the first time with his second goal of the day early in the third quarter before the Hawks rallied with a nine-pointer to Gibson helping his side to an eight-point lead at three quarter-time.
Thomas’ super goal brought the crowd to its feet late in the match with Ryan Bastinac putting the result beyond doubt with the final goal of an entertaining affair.
