Matildas goalkeeper Teagan Micah joins Liverpool in Women’s Super League

Matildas goalkeeper Teagan Micah has signed for Liverpool, becoming the latest Australian to join the English Women’s Super League.

Micah, a member of Australia’s Women’s World Cup squad, joins the Reds from Swedish Club FC Rosengard.

She recently overcame a six-month-long battle with concussions but previously starred for Australia at the Tokyo Olympics and has built her career in the US college system with UCLA.

It means all three Australian goalkeepers: Micah, Mackenzie Arnold (West Ham) and Lydia Williams (Brighton and Hove Albion) are in England.

“It’s Liverpool Football Club, so it’s massive and I’m just really excited for this next chapter in my career,” Micah said in a statement.

“For me, it was also about getting into the WSL – I know it’s turning into the best league in the world. To be able to compete against the best players in the world is really important for myself, for my career.

“I hope I can help take us to the next level and hopefully cement us as a Champions League team in the years to come.”

After the World Cup, Micah will link up with Liverpool, which is aiming to better last season’s seventh-placed finish.

“We feel we’re getting Teagan at a very good time – at the peak of her career – and we’re looking forward to working with her,” manager Matt Beard said in a statement.

“The fact that she’s won titles, played for big clubs, played in Champions League games. She’s experienced different things even at a young age for a goalkeeper – that experience will be invaluable and hopefully we’ll be able to draw on that throughout the course of the season.”
