Winning trainer Chris Waller said he “thought she could win, but not like that”.
“It’s the best from around the world, really. So yeah, you never expect to win like that.
“It’s our Olympic Games. It’s our code of it’s our Grand Final. To be here alone is one thing, but to be able to come back and defend your title is something quite different.
“To us, it’s just the highs that we can reach. We appreciate it. It’s such a proud moment and a proud moment for Australia.”
Jockey Hugh Bowman said after the remarkable weight-for-age Australasian championship at Moonee Valley that he felt the mare had yet to reach her full potential.
“It’s such a special moment. I can’t tell you how I confident I was going into the race after the way she has been working,” Bowman said.
“You know, I don’t think I’ve ever been to the bottom of her. Who knows what she could do if she has something that comes with it. It’s a special moment.”
Winx joins turf greats such as Phar Lap, Kingston Town, Sunline, Northerly and So You Think as a multiple winner of the Moonee Valley race.
Bowman said the mare was “on the road to being one of the all time greats”.
