Rugby league’s hall of shame gets another entry

Dragons coach Paul McGregor’s alleged failure of a breath test is yet another poor reflection on an alcohol-plagued sport.
He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.063 last Sunday morning while driving to training, it was reported on Thursday.
The news should be shocking, but isn’t — likely a result of Rugby league’s many disgraces.
• Paul McGregor heavily fined by Dragons
• This NRL rule is ruining the game and must go
• The simply horrific abuse suffered by female sports reporters
• Rafael Nadal’s suggestion that could change sport
McGregor failed to set a good example for the group of young, impressionable men he leads — as he himself admitted.
“I am extremely disappointed with myself and totally understand the problems that can and could have arisen from my poor decision,” he said on Thursday.
“It was a mistake, a gross error of judgement and one that I deeply regret.”
St George said they had ‘heavily fined’ McGregor, with Fox Sports reporting it was a ‘tick’ over $10,000.
