Former AFL player charged with attempted murder

Former Brisbane Lion Albert Proud has been charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Proud, 27, faced Richlands Magistrates court on Monday in relation to a matter involving his 35-year-old partner.

Police attended his Sunnybank home early on Sunday, after a woman was found with serious head injuries.

She remains in the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Proud has been charged with attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

He did not apply for bail and has been remanded in custody.

Taken with pick 22 in the 2006 National Draft, Proud played 29 games with the Lions from 2007 until 2010.

He was jailed in December 2014 for a string of driving offences, and was sacked by the club in 2011 after being convicted of assaulting a police officer.
