Six Hawks in AFL’s 40-man All-Australian squad

Reigning premiers Hawthorn – aiming for a third straight grand final win this year – led the way in the announcement of the 2015 All-Australian squad.

Six members of Alastair Clarkson’s side were picked in the 40-man squad, with midfielders Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis and Shaun Burgoyne joined by forwards Jack Gunston and Cyril Rioli and defender Josh Gibson.

Fremantle, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs all had five players selected, while Adelaide and Richmond had four.

It is the first time since 2006 that no Geelong players were named in the initial squad.

There were no Brisbane, Carlton, Gold Coast, Melbourne or St Kilda players picked.

The squad will be trimmed at a later date.
