Shane Warne slams ex-coach Buchanan…again

Australian spin-king Shane Warne has unleashed a stunning tirade against former coach John Buchanan for comments he made about Michael Clarke.

Earlier this week, Buchanan accused Clarke of tarnishing the baggy green culture during his captaincy.

Speaking on Today, Warne went on a remarkable attack against Buchanan, who presided over Australia’s most successful period of international cricket.

“It’s an absolute joke, really,” Warne said. “Guys like John Buchanan trying to do cheap shots and say that he’s let [down] the culture of the baggy green.

“Give us a break, mate. Are you for real? … This bloke had no idea about the game of cricket, John Buchanan.

“I mean that is just a disgraceful comment from someone who had no idea about the game of cricket … come on you absolute tall so-and-so.”

When asked if he’d ever coach the Australian side, Warne jibed: “Mate, I’d have to take a pay cut.”

Buchanan and Warne have long been enemies, with the legendary bowler regularly commenting on how cricket doesn’t need coaches.

The comments that raised Warne’s ire this morning came from Buchanan as speculation swirled about Clarke’s job as captain since his retirement.

“Players like Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and others really tried to make the baggy green culture something special but I could sense it was under threat and under Michael’s captaincy I can sense it has disappeared a bit and that disappointed me,’” Buchanan said.

“If he finished games early, Michael would often leave early. I can remember guys like Hayden and Langer sitting him down in a corner and trying to get him to understand what we were trying to achieve.

“There were times when I felt Michael did not understand or did not want to understand.”
