The AFL on Monday will be ‘following up’ reports a Western Bulldogs’ cheer squad member was evicted from the MCG for homophobic remarks during their side’s win over Richmond on Saturday.

The New Daily spoke to AFL Media operations Manager Patrick Keane who said, “The AFL are aware of a complaint … and we will be we will be following it up tomorrow (Monday).”

The Age reported the cheer squad member was evicted after stadium staff were alerted to the alleged homophobic remarks.

Police confirmed that a spectator was warned during Saturday’s game while another was removed from the ground.

It is not yet clear what was said or who the abuse was directed at.

In a separate incident, Richmond Football Club also confirmed to the Herald Sun they’re investigating allegations a fan racially abused Western Bulldogs player Lin Jong.

When security staff investigated the complaints at the game there was not enough evidence to evict the alleged abusers.

Despite that, a Richmond spokesman said they are investigating a separate matter of a racial slur and will release a statement later this afternoon.

Lin Jong, the alleged victim of the abuse, was born in Melbourne to a Taiwanese mother and an East Timorese father.

The Western Bulldogs represent Footscray and the wider area of Melbourne’s West, which is one of the city’s most multiculturally diverse regions.

The Bulldogs defeated Richmond by 19 points to sit on top of the AFL Ladder before completion of Sunday’s games, with Jong having 13 disposals and five tackles.

Jong, 21, came to the Dogs via the number 9 pick in the 2012 AFL Rookie draft and was elevated to the Bulldogs’ senior list at the start of the 2014 season.
