Shootout agony: Hockeyroos downed in final
Argentina have won the Champions Trophy women’s hockey tournament in a shootout over Australia after the Hockeyroos dominated the final in Mendoza, Argentina.
The game finished 1-1, with Argentina taking the shootout 3-1.
Kathryn Slattery put Australia ahead in the 35th minute following good work from Mathilda Carmichael.

Argentina equalised four minutes later when Agustina Habif deflected the ball home from a penalty corner routine.
Australia had seven shots to three and 16 penetrations to 10.
Australia created virtually all the chances in the second half apart from Argentina’s equaliser.
The Argentinians goalkeeper made a number of fine saves to deny Australia and also excelled in the shootout.
