Champion English allrounder Andrew Flintoff is reportedly set to continue his cricketing comeback with Big Bash outfit the Brisbane Heat.

According to English newspaper The Telegraph, the 36-year-old is close to finalising a deal with the Heat for the upcoming season.

Australia’s tormentor during the 2005 Ashes came out of retirement this year to play the shortest form of the game for Lancashire in England – a stint which has motivated him to test himself out during the Australian summer.

In August, Flintoff outlined his desire to try his luck in the Big Bash and referenced his experience in 2009 when he was on the cusp of signing with Queensland for the pre-Big Bash Twenty20 competition before injury intervened.

“If there’s an opportunity there, why not? It’s one of the things I’ve wanted to do,” he told BBC Radio in August.

“I was about to sign for Queensland in 2009 when I retired.”

Flintoff isn’t the only high-profile ex-England Test star to land in the Big Bash this summer, with controversial batsman Kevin Pietersen signing up with the Melbourne Stars.

The Heat are coached by Flintoff’s former county teammate Stuart Law, a veteran of Queensland cricket.
