Daniel Geale books world title fight with Golovkin
Australia’s Daniel Geale has secured a fight against undefeated world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in New York next month.
The 33-year-old confirmed the July 26 title bout at Madison Square Garden via social media on Tuesday.
Kazakh hard-hitter Golovkin had applied for an exemption to bypass mandatory challenger and Australian Jarrod Fletcher in a bid to fight former champion Geale for the WBA belt.
Golovkin boasts a 29-0 record with 26 knockouts, his most recent against Ghana’s Osumanu Adama in February.
Geale has only fought once since losing his IBF title to Englishman Darren Baker last August – defeating countryman Garth Wood in February.
