Mundine confident of making weight

An unscheduled wait has helped the troublesome weight issue for boxer Anthony Mundine, as he plans to punish Shane Mosley for a lack of respect.

Mundine branded fellow Australians and former opponents Daniel Geale and Sam Soliman as “haters” for helping Mosley prepare for next Wednesday’s WBA International super welterweight title bout at Allphones Arena in Sydney.

The bout originally set for October 23 was postponed only a few days beforehand after 42-year-old Mosley’s pre-fight financial demands weren’t met.

It was rescheduled for November 27 after the Mundine camp addressed those concerns.

While speculation constantly circulates about Mundine’s battle to get down to the super welterweight limit, his father and trainer Tony said his son had actually made the weight last week.

“He looks really good, really calm, really relaxed,” Tony Mundine told AAP.

“He’s happy, he’s on the weight, so what more you can do?”

Anthony said he had monitored his weight a lot more closely for the rescheduled bout.

“I’ve got my weight lower earlier and I’m maintaining that and now I’m going to try and have as much rest as much as I can order to get as much energy as I can for the fight,” Anthony Mundine told AAP.

Apart from the frustration of the postponement, Mundine has also had to deal with his Sydney cafe being destroyed by a firebomb in the five-week period between the two dates.

“A lot of it is distracting, but I’m a true professional,” Mundine said.

“The main focus has always been the fight. Any distractions, I’m a guy that turns positives into negatives.

“I’m going to use that as motivation and fuel in order to bring the best out of me on the night.”

Mundine has also been fired up by remarks by Mosley, who said he was taking the fight to stay in shape and keep busy.

“I really think that Shane is not showing me the respect I deserve,” Mundine said.

“When my fist is down his throat, he’ll definitely show me the respect then.

“Certain fights don’t get me up, don’t get me motivated, this one does.

“Now he’s put insult to the wound, and talking a lot of smack and disrespecting me.”

Mosley has utilised the services of Geale and Soliman in the lead-up to the fight, with the former having fought “The Man” twice and the latter three times.

“They (Soliman and Geale) are nothing but haters, they are jealous and envious of me,” Mundine said.
