Wednesday racing: best bets at Canterbury, Sale
It was a reasonable day for our followers on Saturday, with Paximadia winning well at Caulfield and Epingle running a solid second at nice each way odds.
In the west, we managed to find the trifecta from our four selections in the Champion Filles Stakes but unfortunately our value each way selection didn’t run as well as anticipated.
Our best each way bet was Elite Belle and she was unfortunately held up in behind horses for much of the straight. She found room in the last 50m and flashed through late to only be beaten a short neck. With even luck she would have won comfortably, but that is racing as they say.
Canterbury (NSW) preview
Race 3 (2.30pm): We have the one blackbooker at Canterbury on Wednesday in 7 SUPREME JOY who trialled very well on the synthetic surface at Warwick Farm on November 8. She jumped smartly and led on that occasion and went to the line under no pressure for a very easy win.
For a set weights 3yo maiden, this is an interesting affair and it looks a reasonably strong field considering. The conditions are key to this race as Sydney has been hit with a lot of rain recently and the track will be affected (currently a Heavy 8).
Trained by Joseph Pride, 7 SUPREME JOY is one that has looked comfortable in wet conditions previously, running two placings in as many career starts, both on a heavy track. She was only very narrowly beaten on both of those occasions and has looked to come back in superb order. No doubt she can run very well here first up and be hard to beat.
5 LUNDI has won two recent trials in the lead up to making her debut here. The wet track is a query and not overly convinced those trials were all that strong. That said, it is important to watch the betting and if there is money for her she has to be respected. The same can be said for the other debutant here in 2 HOFF’N RUNNIN’. This gelding has trialled twice previously and went ok. No trial recently which is always interesting and the market may be the best guide.
5 METEOROS has met some handy horses in six career runs and has shown talent previously. His very narrow second when splitting Pitcrew and Amovatio on a slow track two starts ago was very good and shows he has the class to measure up here. Interestingly, he trialled on the same as his stable mate, 7 SUPREME JOY and ran a much slower time.
The market is going to be a very good guide to this race but happy to recommend a play on 7 SUPREME JOY here. Barrier 8 should no problems and she looks hard to beat.
Sale (VIC) preview
Race 6 (4.00pm): Feature racing this weekend moves to Ballarat for the Listed $200,000 Cup along with Victoria’s only clockwise race – the 2YO Magic Million Clockwise Classic over 1000m. The Trial Files have been pouring over the recent trials in the lead up to the juvenile classic and we are very much looking forward to the race!
As Sandown continues to undergo track repairs the midweek Victorian racing rolls into Sale for another moderate betting card. The Trial Files have highlighted two runners from recent barrier trials engaged in race six: 3 TYANNA and 6 SUNSET IN VENICE.
6 SUNSET IN VENICE was very good in winning her maiden at Mornington on debut after being held up for much of the race. Loved her turn of foot when clear and the victory showed all the signs of a horse on the up. She is going to relish a strong tempo set by number’s; 1,2,4,7 and 9 and should be able to produce a sharp sprint late. She looms as the horse to beat and a standout bet on the card.
3 TYANNA is better known over middle distance trips but showed she was in top order for a return to racing with a recent Cranbourne barrier trial. This daughter of Fastnet Rock will likely be outpaced early but will enjoy a solid tempo up front and be doing her best work on the line.
Blackbooker 6 SUNSET IN VENICE does stand out as the bet of the day at Sale and with natural improvement off that brilliant debut she should be able to account for this field. Include 3 TYANNA in multiples and quaddies.
